HOTA
This 24-hour concert was a marathon endurance performance by one of Australia's leading concert pianists, composers, and creative innovationists.
This never-before-attempted concert event served as a retrospective of Charlie Chan’s 40-year career as a virtuoso pianist and composer.
The concert brought together a mix of energetic and dynamic performance, classical, contemporary, jazz, and experimental music - all live, all day, all night on the Outdoor Stage at HOTA on Queensland’s Gold Coast.
Supernova also saw the world premiere of Charlie’s AI - named Ch.AI - installed on a Yamaha Disklavier, which continued playing while Charlie took occasional breaks to eat, nap and heed calls of nature.
Supernova highlights
On June 23, 2023, composer, pianist, and innovator Charlie Chan performed at HoTA on the Gold Coast for 26 hours, 5 minutes, and 20 seconds, setting a world record for the longest improvised solo piano concert of all time.
